Zune%20logo.JPGAnalyst firm iSuppli basically said that Microsoft can't meet demand for its latest Zune MP3 players in a press release Wednesday.

Analyst Chris Crotty noted that the Zune 80 has been difficult to find, and has been backordered on many sites. "The question is whether the Zune 80 shortage is the result of high demand, short supply or some combination of both," he said. "Given the widespread criticism of the first Zune model, it is likely Microsoft erred on the side of caution when placing initial orders for the new Zunes, which include the Hard-Disk-Drive (HDD) based Zune 80 as well as the flash- memory-based Zune 4 and 8."

Crotty noted that the bulk of the Zune's sales have been the older Zune 30 models, however, which have been heavily discounted. Microsoft may also be moving slowly to ensure that, as a distant follower of Apple's own iPod products, it can develop an "iPod killer". Discounts and slow development aside, however, could Microsoft have a hit on its hands?

Ten bucks says short supply. I think MS realizes they have a turkey. Just because it's in short supply doesn't mean there's high demand, after all. ;)

i have been waiting to see more accessories come out. i bought a zune for my father a year ago. i opted out of the ipod because my father is blind and the zune controls are easier for him. i like the software very much but i dont know how the itunes software is to compare, can you compare the two? but to this date there is still only one base for the unit. what a huge disapoinment!!!!!!!!! i want to get a few more but i thought i would see more docking stations but not one. i really like it but why is no one else investing in this product either(by producing more accessories).

still waiting

thx

I sometimes wonder if companies create an artificial shortage of products. The Wii, PS3, and XBox 360 have all had their shortages. It's almost like if you don't have a period where customers can't get your product then you're not a real player. I guess the Wii wins since they have now had a shortage 2 Christmas seasons in a row. Perhaps that's how they're making up for being last to market with the latest console.
