A report at Video Business this week cites industry figures that claim the HD DVD installed base is now 750,000 units, thanks to the $99 Wal-Mart HD DVD player and similar promotions. The problem is that the Blu-ray camp claims they have an installed base of 2.7 million players. Note that these figures include game consoles like the Xbox 360 (HD DVD) and Playstation 3 (Blu-ray), the latter of which has moved 2 million units. There's lots more data in the article, for the interested.
Something else to consider: "During the Black Friday period, BD titles made up 72.6% of all high-def purchases, with HD DVD totaling 27.4%, according to Nielsen/VideoScan figures cited by the [Blu-ray Disc Association]."
So with discs of all sorts flying off the shelves (see Friday's Wal-Mart secret sale for more) Blu-ray still holds the edge. Do you care?

Other than video games does Blu-ray or for that matter HD DVD really matter?
We are already using hard-drives to down load and record movies. Both formats are transitional technology with early adopters getting burned.
With most popular video games on line "LIVE" who really needs either?
If you are a gamer then X-Box gives you the Blu-ray. Otherwise, a cheap HD-dvd will give the best value, and you won't feel bad a year from now when your movies are on your computer.

i think blu ray is clearly the best choice. they have better sound and the disks hold 2 to 3 times more information, not to mention the fact that at most places the movies are cheaper. witht the ps3 price drops the players are also getting cheaper.
blu rays are and have been outselling hd.
so if you want the best blu ray is clearly the best choice, they are the future in high definition...
