HP is pulling out of the camera business--sort of. The company, which, let's face it, was never the most celebrated manufacturer in the camera game, "will seek an alternative business model for its HP-branded cameras and shift resources toward its Print 2.0 growth initiatives," according to Digital Photography Review.

The company is attempting to find OEM to create cameras that will bear the HP brand, by the first half of next year. The aforementioned "Print 2.0" shift involves a new focus on lowering prices, increasing speed, improving Web integration, and otherwise improving the print side of their business.

Let's play a game: count the consumer camera companies. They've been dropping out one by one for a couple years now, focusing either on D-SLRs (Olympus, Konica Minolta) or just fading into history (Polaroid).

It's kind of a bummer...HP's cameras were really easy to use, and PC Mag used to recommend them for beginners.

My guess is that Canon, Nikon, and Kodak (the cameras people REALLY want) are just too low-priced nowadays. You can get a great little Canon SD1000 for $150 online, which kills anything HP ever made.

Except for the Mz67 Kyle... 6x Optical Zoom. 8 megapixel. 2.5" screen. Its under $150 at Staples.
