I admit it--despite being well past high-school age and never having managed to score that Spitfire sponsorship I spent all those years angling for, I still like to take the old skateboard out every now and again, when the weather permits. Sadly, years of self-propulsion have left me with knees like string cheese. If only there were a way to combine my passion for technology with my burning desire to not have my knees fall off my legs one day.

What's that, Radleads? You have the solution?

The GroundSurf is an electric skateboard with built-in Bluetooth, which allows skaters to control the board's speed via an HTC handset.

According to Engadget, the release date and price are still fairly vague: GroundSurf comes out "soon" for around $2,000. Better start saving up--and shopping around for a robust insurance plan.

I agree...I can't believe that companies would make something so ridiculous. The sad thing is that I'm sure plenty of designers came up with legitimately GOOD ideas that were shot down by marketing. No real skateboarder would ever think of buying this. Washed up 40-somethings who wish they could go back to when they were actually cool MAYBE. As for the guy up top who complained about a little road rash...that's part of skateboarding you should enjoy your scars. If skateboarding were easy there would be little or no sense of accomplishment after you've fallen 20 times trying to grind a handrail or flat bottomed on a vert ramp. If you want a safe sport play table tennis. Maybe they could make a bluetooth paddle that keeps scores and wirelessly transmits it to an e-paper sweatband and a new flat screen score board simultaneously.^_-
