At the Yamaha line show, this grand-looking baby was one product that really caught my attention and imagination. The Disklavier isn't brand new (Engadget wrote about it a few years ago), but some of its features are.
The Disklavier Mark IV is an acoustic piano... a digital piano... a player piano too. When we walked over, an invisible pianist was burning up the keys with a jazzy tune.
But wait, there's more: piano karaoke, for one thing. You can connect a microphone to the piano and sing along; your voice comes through its built-in speakers. The Mark IV comes with a remote control. It can teach you to play piano. It holds a 80GB hard drive to store MIDI, audio, and graphic data.
If those features aren't cool enough for you, though, try this: Via the new DisklavierMusic Store, the Mark IV can now download recorded performances by well-known artists and play them for you. You can also stream broadcasts from Yamaha's DisklavierRadio.
This kind of fun doesn't come cheap; prices for the Mark IV Piano with the new 2.0 features start at $35,000. But if you're best buds with a rich person, start dropping some hints.
