How many nights have you lied in bed alone, ate at the dinner table alone, or watched TV alone, while your spouse was busy typing away at the computer? Sadly, it's a trend that more and more couples and families are seeing. In a survey conducted by SupportSoft Inc., 64-percent of Americans say they spend more time with their computer than with their significant other. Ouch. In addition, the respondents estimated they spent an average of 12 hours a month dealing with computer problems. I know the feeling!
SupportSoft Inc, a company that makes software for computer help desks, conducted the survey (who were all over 18) in order to see how computers affect individuals and their emotions, before offering their own computer support services. As a result, the survey also discovered that when faced with a computer that wasn't working right:
-
32 percent basically shrugged
- 19 percent admitted to wanting to hurl it out the nearest window
- 9 percent felt stranded and alone
- 11 percent used language normally reserved for special occasions
- 7 percent did so loudly
- 3 percent did so tearfully
- 3 percent additionally vented their wrath on inanimate objects
Even more, 48 percent said they would rather help a friend move than solve their PC problems. Wow, that's heavy! Consequently, the company decided that instead of branding its computer services by using the words "geek" and "nerd" in its name (Think Geek Squad), SupportSoft simply decided on the name Support.com by touting themselves as "computer therapists." Seems fitting! So what's the lesson you should take away from the results of this survey? Spend more time with your spouse, and let someone else figure out your computer problems! [via Fox News]
