Sprint and LG unveiled the provocatively-named Rumor handset today. Featuring a full-sized QWERTY keyboard for e-mail and texting, the thing seems to be positioned as something of a Sidekick killer, though while consulting with Sascha on the subject, he was quick to point out that, feature-wise, the Rumor is going to be more of an entry-level handset, than say the Helio Ocean or Sidekick LX.
The phone will be priced at $79.99 (with a $50 rebate), giving it a prime shot at some of the upcoming Palm Centro's marketshare, a nice (and $20 cheaper) alternative for those looking at phones in the non-traditional smartphone space, which is to say, primarily younger users, not lookin for a business-centric handset, as evidenced by the phone's compatibility with services like AIM, MSN and Yahoo! messaging, Facebook, and Xanga. Sprint Mobile's eMail app also gives users the ability to access their Yahoo!, Gmail, and AOL Webmail accounts.
The handset's features are rounded out by a 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3 playing capability, and a microSD slot.
The handset will be available for purchase through Sprint's site and Best Buy at the end of the month, and will pop up in brick-and-mortar Sprint stores on November 4th.
