As we have recently reported, Targus is very serious about clean and energy efficient manufacturing. Yesterday the laptop accessory maker has taken its green ambitions to the next level by announcing its sponsorship of the Continuum: the ninth-generation Solar Car Team at the University of Michigan.

"The Continuum team is committed to research and racing of solar cars to promote energy efficiency within our environment," stated Brian Ignaut, Solar Car Team's Project/Race Manager. "We are honored to have Targus as a dedicated sponsor for our team and excited to work toward the common goal of creating a more environmentally responsible society."

The award-winning group of mostly undergraduate students designed and built this remarkable vehicle from the ground up. Intended for worldwide racing competitions, the car uses triple-layered silicon or gallium-arsenide cells to convert solar energy to electricity.

Members of the team believe the Continuum projects lays out a blueprint for a broader use of this technology in the future production of automobiles.
