Sure, baseball fans can get one-click access to MLB.com on BlackBerrys with a quick download, but the harsh truth is that within the next two weeks, all but eight teams will be out for the season.
So, it's time for some football! The regular NFL season is already a couple weeks old, and diehard fans have probably already begun sacrificing their Sunday (and Monday evening) social lives to watch. But sitting camped out in front of the TV set isn't the only way to get play-by-play updates and news. Here are three ways to track your team (or the whole league) without being tethered to the couch:
4INFO SMS Alerts
Get free SMS text message alerts sent to your cell phone updating you on your favorite team and players. From the 4INFO Web site, you can set up alerts that will message you when there's a change during your home team's game's score, possession, ball location, down/distance, turnovers, quarter-end and final scores, and news (or any combination of those). Or, if you have a favorite player, you can set up an alert to let you know whenever his stats change (TDs, yards, point conversions, injuries, fumbles, and more).
Ambient Devices' Football ScoreCast
Very similar to the LiveBoard MLB score tracker (which may see a NFL refresh, manufacturers say), this device (set to retail for $124.99) allows you to review the latest scores and schedule for your favorite team or a whole division. Updates refresh every quarter and through overtime. (Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until the December 1 launch to bring this one home.)
NFL Mobile (only on Sprint)
Sprint Vision and Power Vision data plan customers can access NFL Mobile features including highlight reels, customizable team alerts, real time coverage from GameCenter, and on-demand NFL Network video. You can even track your fantasy football team automatically.
