Call it progress, pioneering, medicine 2.0, or simply a mistake waiting to happen--whatever it might be, one thing's for sure: it's probably at least slightly better than diagnosing yourself via the Wikipedia. In fact, considering the general lack of success that I had with my Facebook group, Does This Look Infected to You?, perhaps the Brooklyn physician who is diagnosing patients via e-mail and Webcam is on to something, after all.
"I believe in harnessing these ubiquitous technologies to optimize your health," said Dr. Jay Parkinson, of Brooklyn's uber-hip Williamsburg neighborhood. "It's the wave of the future for affordable healthcare."
Maybe, but I'm not really sure that the 0.05 Megapixel camera on my phone really does this rash the justice it deserves.

Keep in mind, using these technologies is not the single way I plan to diagnose problems. It can give me a head start on treatment options. Nothing can replace an actual visit for certain conditions. But I see an amazing opportunity to treat simple, non life-threatening problems using email, digital photos, and video chatting.
