I heard a lot of buzz about ooma yesterday, but didn't get a chance to head over to their booth until this morning. I guess I was too busy hanging out at ooVo yesterday, and really, only had time to squeeze one funny-sounding, uncapitalized product into my busy schedule.

Having had a chance to check out ooma up close, I can attest to the fact that it's a pretty intriguing product. Aesthetically, the ooma Hub looks a bit like one of those memory games from the 80s, like Simon, et al. The Hub will cost you $399--a bit steep, but one you've made the initial purchase, you get free calls within the US. Forever. Yep. It's a tough pill to swallow, at first, but if you're still holding onto your in-house landline, it may actually prove a pretty sound investment.

Once you've picked up the Hub, you plug an Ethernet cable and handset into it, and you're good to go. Additional units, called Scouts, are also available, allowing you to use ooma with multiple handsets within your house.

This ooma service is not "forever" as they like to make you believe. Read the fine print. It says it's only guaranteed for 3 years. And you'd better check into the security problems before you put down any money on this.
