Back in January, my colleagues and I tested the Sleeptracker, a wristwatch that monitors your body while you're sleeping so that you can wake up at an optimal time (you know, rather than continuously hitting the snooze button). Well, the company is back with the second-generation watch, which officially launched today: the Sleeptracker Pro. This time around, it's waterproof up to 20 meters (if you wear your watch all day), new vibrating alarm function instead of just the standard beeps, a sleeker design, and the ability to download your sleep data via USB to your PC.
So how is it able to monitor your sleeping patterns? "The device has an internal accelerometer to detect the movements associated with periods of restlessness that indicate we are in a light sleep stage. SLEEPTRACKER PRO then keeps a record of your moments of restlessness when you are "almost awake" and, for the first time, gives you the ability to upload your sleep data via USB to your computer and review it by day, week or month." Sleeptracker inventor Lee Lorlee stopped by the PC Mag offices to show us the latest Sleeptracker (we'll get a sample unit in soon). I like the design so much better than the original, and I love the fact that with this one you don't have to write down all of your data; just use the included USB 2.0 cable that connects to USB pins on the watch to your computer, and you can use the included software to input daily activities that may or may not have affected your sleep, like a strenuous workout, staying out late, or drinking lots of alcohol. Sleeptracker Pro is available now for a special price of $149 with free shipping.
