The Federal Communications Commission reviews devices that will use or take advantage of public transmission media as part of an approval process. The latest on the stand? What appears to be a stripped-down new Slingbox Pro from Sling Media, with a few ports removed.
Here's the back of the current Slingbox Pro (click the link for a larger pic):
If this is a connection-accurate prototype, then I think a price cut is in order.
Marguerite Reardon over at CNET has also blogged the addition of a new Linksys/T-Mobile router with the addition of two telephone jacks in the back, implying that VoIP capabilities will be added to its cellular hotspot capability. Which sort of boggles the mind, when you think about it -- adding a wired VoIP line to a Wi-Fi hotspot that already allows you to use a Wi-Fi enabled cell phone. And adding a wireless phone to the VoIP port on the Wi-Fi hotspot... brain hurting, must stop...
