Logitech launched two entries in its pleasantly named Pure-Fi iPod dock line. Nothing about the mid-range docks looks too exciting, and it's not entirely clear what makes them so "pure," though it seems to have something to do with improved sound quality. Both systems feature Logitech's StereoXL technology, which is supposed to widen the speakers' sound range.

The Pure-Fi Anywhere, the cheaper of the two systems at $149.99, also features, "2-inch Max-X active, high-excursion drivers with neodymium magnets and 3-inch pressure drivers for clear sound, maximum bass response and minimal distortion." The portable dock ships with a remote, protective case, and an AC adapter, which charges both an iPod and the Anywhere's 10-hour rechargeable battery, when plugged in.

The downright sublimely named Pure-Fi Dream Bedroom System carries a $249.99 pricetag and features, "3/4-inch high-definition, soft-dome tweeters and 3-inch high-power, long-throw woofers." The combo speaker dock/alarm clock features a digital AM/FM radio, a backlit remote with snooze buttons, and presets that allow for six iPod playlists and six AM and 12 FM radio presets. Track and artist information is displayed on the system's LCD, which dims automatically at night.

The Anywhere ships this month. Those waiting for the Dream will have to keep smacking the snooze button until November.

I'm confused to a degree, I'm not totally sure why Logitech wants in on this market. I suppose they figure they can do it and have more name recognition than folks like iHome and the like, but still. I suppose we should just see what happens when it lands.

Wonder what this'll do to Apple's iPod Hi-Fi, if anyone's actually buying them. Logitech's products might be direct competitors.
