I have an old school Bop It game buried in my closet. My friends and I reach for it when we're in a particularly giggly mood. I'm talking about the original game here; "bop it," "twist it," "pull it," and "pass it" are the only commands. It seemed a bit too much to upgrade to the Bop It Extreme and really press our luck (though we have a ton of fun, not one of us is really that good at the game to begin with).
So, I'm not going to lie: When I first saw the Bop It Download ($49.95 from FireBox), I was a bit frightened. Not only does it have extra arms and more moving parts than I'm used to ("Flick it"? "Spin it"? What's gong on here?), there are enough customizable commands to give you a serious migraine.
The new USB-enabled version allows you to download new beats and voices whenever you like. Simply hook it up to your computer, get on the Bop It site and start transferring anything from classical music to hard rock beats. You can even use the Bop It software to record your own voice and commands (creeeeepy). My mind is swimming with funny, bizarre, and downright mean things to make my friends do in the name of a good party game.
The Bop It Download is pre-loaded with five difficulty levels and has secret sounds you can unlock as you pile up more points.
