LG Electronics is making it even easier for YouTube users to shoot, upload, and watch videos by announcing its development of the first YouTube-optimized handsets. "This new service will connect people like never before. For the first time, LG customers will be able to film, upload and view videos on YouTube using their mobile phone just as they would be able to from their home computer," said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company." Although these handsets will initially be available in Europe, the company expects worldwide release by the end of this year.So why is this move a big deal? Michael McGuire, an analyst at Gartner research, believes that "it will lead to new kinds of mobile-shot video, such as waves of YouTube clips from Spring Break in Florida...On the other hand, he went on to say, the technology also will lead to a proliferation of cell-phone-based news gathering." Pricing has yet to be set.
