Promising to add a little graphical zing to current and future hand-held gaming consoles and mobile phones, Toshiba today announced a new 100 mega polygon/sec dedicated 3D graphics chip.
In terms of pixels, the new chip is capable of rendering 800 mega-pixels per second, according to Toshiba, which is about 38 times faster than the company's previous chips.
The new chip also happens to be composed of three processors: the new 3D graphics processor, Toshiba's MeP (Media Embedded Processor) for processing sound, the ARM1176JZF-S (a high-performance processor core), and a WVGA LCD controller for those pretty wide-screen, high resolution displays.
Toshiba is also saying that the chip will be compliant with programmable shading for 3D graphics and will also support much more realistic graphics with shading and reflectivity.
Samples of the new graphics chip will be available in October with mass production expected in the second quarter of 2008, according to the company.

I wouldn't be supprised if this ended up being used in a next gen Gameboy DS. It will most likely be used in cell phones.
