Did you hear that? That was the sound of me edging slightly closer to actually replacing my cell phone's standard ring with an honest-to-god ring tone. If there's anything that will ever be able to push me over that cliff, screaming into the world of heavily distorted clips of Black Eyed Peas songs, it's the promise of hearing Homer sing the Mr. Plow theme song every time my mom calls.
Thanks to the upcoming Simpsons Movie, the folks at Jamster--apparently making amends for unleashing upon society the cultural blight that was Crazy Frog--are heading that call by releasing a series of Simpsons-related cellphone themes, available as a subscription plan with the unfortunate name, "The Yellow Plan."
Simpsons Mobile features the game "Minutes to Meltdown," ringtones (including the Itchy and Scratchy theme), and wallpapers. The real centerpiece here, however, is the voice tones, featuring show quotes and a few originals, spoken primarily by Homer, including the classic, "You're gonna have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel," and the brand new, "Hey, everybody, pay attention to me. I'm a big fancy jerk, with a big fancy cell phone."
That beats "My Humps" any day, in my book.
