The tag line for the SuddenSTOP license plate frame pretty much says it all: "Flashes when you slam your brakes!" An internal device housed in the frame measures G-Force, and anything over .7 Gs makes the eight red LEDs flash for a few seconds, hopefully giving that tailgater behind you enough warning to avoid an unpleasant collision.
Strangely, SuddenSTOP runs on eight coin-cell batteries instead of something that might be more easily and cheaply replaced. Still, the company claims you'll get 15,000 hours or two to three years' juice from the batteries. It would be nice if there was some study to cite that showed how much more effective flashing lights are than regular old brake lights. But this is strictly an infomercial, buy-first-ask-questions-later kind of product. Don't believe me? Check the site for the commercial. The acting, at least, is priceless.
