Just a last minute post before I frantically pack for my honeymoon: remember the Steorn Orbo perpetual-motion demo of a day or so ago? The one that failed to run because of the "heat from the camera lights"? Well, if you traveled to the London Kinetica Museum in the hopes that the demonstration would finally be performed... Well, I suppose you can guess, can't you?
"Steorn has decided to postpone the demonstration until further notice," the company said.
"Sean McCarthy CEO stated that 'technical problems arose during the installation of the demonstration unit in the display case on Wednesday evening," the company added. "These problems were primarily due to excessive heat from the lighting in the main display area. Attempts to replace those parts affected by the heat led to further failures and as a result we have to postpone the public demonstration until a future date.'"
Over the next few weeks the company will explore alternative dates for the public demonstration, Steorn said.
I'm betting on February 31, 2008.

It's a perpetual motion machine. It will *never* work while observed, only appear to work in carfully staged conditions to extract money from the viewers.

It's the "turn lead into gold" machine for modern times.
It amazes me how these "businesses" keep coming back, one after the next. Who invests in them?

really, once you've invested the first time, it's hard to stop coming back.
