Because the world just had to have another robo-pooch, Robosoft yesterday announced their latest creation, RobuDog, which runs XP embedded and brings a whole lot o' ugly to the robo-pet party. It may look like a toaster with a big plastic Easter egg stuck to the top of it, but the RobuDOG has skills, specifically "ankle movement in its front legs, allowing it to kick a ball with more accuracy." Because that's what we need all our future robot pets to do. Maybe Robosoft is hoping to save the sad state of American Football by introducing four-legged teammates to play alongside David Bekham. Though Robosoft is a French company, so that seems unlikely.
All the same, RobuDOG weighs in at 6.6 pounds, sports 17 servo-powered joints, sensors for velocity and floor contact, and a color camera. It also has both WiFi and Ethernet, for some reason. If you can find it in your heart to take one of these robopups in, the company says it will start delivering them sometime this fall. No word on price, but with with articulated ankles, don't expect it to come cheap.
