fujitsu_drive.jpgGreen, schmeen. One thing's for sure: Fujitsu certainly hasn't caught that eco-friendly, power-saving bug the rest of the hard drive industry has been coming down with as of late. On Tuesday, the company announced a new series of 2.5-inch hard disk drives designed for 24-hour continuous operation. No slowing down or stopping for these hard-working hard drives. These babies spin 24/7.

With storage capacities of up to 200GB, the new MHY2 BS series will go on sale at the end of August and will be aimed primarily for use in ATMs, medical equipment, and POS systems, the company said.

With all that spinning, Fujitsu is also claiming the new drives are designed with features that minimize the effects of rotational vibration (which degrades drive performance over time).

The MHY2 BS Series actually joins two other series of 2.5-inch ATA HDDs from Fujitsu, both of which are also designed for 24/7 continuous operation and harsh operating conditions. Those drives include the MHW2 BK series, which features a disk speed of 7,200 rpm, and the MHW2 AC Series, which is designed to withstand extremely high and low temperatures.
