In spite of being regarded by many as one of the most progressive companies in consumer electronics, Apple has never gotten much love from environmentalists. Over the course of the last few years, the company has been on the receiving end of a good deal of flak surrounding the disposal of their machines and other green issues. More recently, Apple has tried to make amends, touting, among other things, the company's commitment to doing away with CCFL backlights.

In light of such moves, Energy Star's recent upgrade to stricter standards is a bit of a blow to the Cupertino company, who, according to Engadget, doesn't have a single PC or notebook in their current line that qualifies for the seal, under these new, stricter guidelines. To be fair, only 125 systems currently on sale in the US qualify for the new standards--the thing is, Apple is one of the few manufacturers without a single model on the market that qualifies.

Companies have until January, before the new standards go into effect.
