Lenovo has rebuilt its ThinkPad T61p workstation notebook. On Tuesday, the PC manufacturer unveiled a substantially beefed up version of the T61p workhorse, complete with a new widescreen display (15.4-inches), a top cover roll cage, enhanced graphics (Nvidia Quadro FX 570M), and better wireless support--including ultrawideband (UWB) capabilities for short range wireless connectivity.
As the latest Lenovo enterprise product to get a Centrino Pro refresh, the Energy Star 4.0-compliant T61p now weighs in at 5.9 pounds, and has been designed to support a number of wireless technologies, including support for draft 802.11n WLAN (wireless LAN) and embedded WWAN (wireless WAN) technologies.
According to Lenovo, the updated T61p also comes with a number of optional Intel Core 2 Duo processors, including the T7700, T7500 and T7300, which offer clock speeds ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.0GHz, 4MB of L2 cache and an 800MHz front-side bus. Despite a growing number of investigations that say the technology doesn't do much, Lenovo is also offering Intel's TurboMemory option--an on-motherboard flash card that is designed to act as another layer in the memory hierarchy, caching data where possible and improving performance/battery life in notebooks. In terms of memory and hard drive options, the workstation includes up to 4-Gbytes of RAM, a SATA (Serial ATA) hard drive with a maximum capacity of 160-Gbytes, a CD-RW DVD combo, and three USB 2.0 ports. It'll also support the 32- and 64-bit versions of Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, according to Lenovo, as well as support for Windows XP. And if you're into Linux is your thing, the notebooks will work with Novell's SUSE, Red Hat, as well as Turbo Linux.
The T61p starts at $1,814 and is available now. Read more about the revamped ThinkPad at Extremetech. More pictures after the jump...
