myvu.gifThe iPod visor never struck me as an especially good idea. Perhaps I'm totally alone on this. Apparently Myvu sold enough units of their last model to prompt them to debut a new one today. On second thought, perhaps this model was inspired by the last version's inability to meet sales expectations. After all, the new Myvu Solo offers less features than the fully-loaded, while knocking $100 off the prices.

The images on the site are a bit off-putting, including folks walking down the streets of Manhattan around Madison Square Garden--perhaps not the ideal situation for having your eyes monopolized by an episode of The Office. The release does mention, however, that the goggles with be available in 190 airports and department stores, nationwide. The former seems to make a bit more sense.

I suppose that if you travel a lot, and don't own either a laptop or portable DVD player, the "LCD screens inside the headset [which make it feel] as if you were watching a large screen TV from six feet away," might have a certain appeal, especially if you're of the sort who watches videos via your iPod that you'd rather your fellow travelers not know about. If you're willing to trade that embarrassment for the potential embarrassment of owning a $200 pair of Jordi LaForge shades, the Myvu Solo are probably a good way to go.

Added bonus: "Users can watch videos on their iPods anywhere, anytime." And all this time I was under the impression that that was a feature built into the iPod itself. Who knew?
