Logitech's VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse doesn't bring the same level of mousing innovation as, say, the company's MX Air, but it does a darn fine job as a portable mouse, and looks good doing it.
The first thing you'll notice about the VX Nano is the minuscule 2.4GHz USB receiver. At around the size of a nickel, it's about 90 percent USB connector, and 10 percent nub. The bit that sticks out from the port is about the size of two bumps on a Lego brick. That means you'll actually be able to leave this plugged into your laptop, should you need to move it to another room, or another state. And when you do unplug it for long travels, it fits snugly inside of the mouse's belly battery compartment. There's even a spring-loaded red eject button for getting it out of there. Seriously, it's so small you would otherwise need one of those car-fuse removal clips. It's a nice feature for portable mice, but would also be good for the desktop variety as well, so you could plug into front USB ports without risk of busting off the receiver with a misplaced swipe of the foot. This is some miniaturization I could really get used to.
The mouse itself is fairly small as well, but not too small, at about two thirds the length and girth of an average-size mouse. At least to me, that feels about right and I'd have no comfort problems making this my primary mouse. The top of the mouse packs Logitech's best-in-the-industry MicroGear scroll wheel, and three extra buttons that I'm sure to never use, for forward, back and zoom. The recessed side panels feature the same perforated black rubberized material that's on other high-end Logitech mice, as well as their Desktop Wave keyboard.
If you're in the market for a mouse to travel with you wherever you go, and you get sick of plugging and unplugging the receiver every time you get up to get another latte, you can't go wrong with the VX Nano. It's a comfortable smallish mouse that's easy to carry wherever you might travel. Logitech even includes a nice mesh zipper bag. The VX Nano will be available to travel sometime in late August, for around $70. It's not the cheapest of portable mice, but some people like to travel in style.
