Last weekend, the massive flooding in parts of Kansas forced many families to flee from their homes. While most of their belongings will never be recovered, DriveSavers, a hard drive recovery service, announced today that it is offering free computer data recovery for the flood victims in Kansas until August 30, 2007. "When I saw that 42,000 gallons of crude oil spilled from the Coffeyville Resources refinery on top of the devastation of the flooding, I knew we needed to help." said Scott Gaidano, president of DriveSavers. "Water and oil exposure are the worst conditions for electronic equipment. If you find your computer submerged in water, your safest bet for getting your data back is to call a professional data recovery company like DriveSavers." DriveSavers is well known for some of its recoveries, including "a PowerBook that was submerged in the Amazon River for two days, drives damaged in Hurricane Katrina and computers damaged in the 9/11 disaster." Pictured here is a damaged PC in which the company saved its hard drive back in 2003. They removed the hard drive, soaked it in some special solution, and now it's 100% in operation.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE DriveSavers. Seriously, every time I used to have to send drives off to them, each and every one of them came back working and in good condition, or at worst they got the data, gave it back to me on an external drive, and that was that.
It's really cool to hear that they're going out of their way like that, and it doesn't hurt for a little good hearted publicity, either. Good on 'em.
