There certainly seems to be a lot going on the wonderful world of wireless lately. First there was MIT and its Witricity demo, and then last week word spread about GIT's Multi-Gigabit short-range WiFi. And now, Router and NAS manufacturers D-Link are about to drop their first Wireless USB kit, the DUB-9240. All I can say is bring it on, because I am so ready for a wire-free world.

D-Link's kit comes with a USB dongle and a wireless 4-port hub, and the company claims full USB 2.0 speed up to a range of about 30 feet. It transmits data from 3.4GHz to 4.5GHz, to steer clear of traditional WiFi signals, and is set to retail for about $120. It's not shipping yet though; all we know is that D-Link is shooting for sometime in the forth quarter of this year. I'm going to go ahead and start detangling wires under my desk now though. Hopefully I'll be able to spend the holidays moving my portable hard drives out from underneath my desk, where I keep knocking them over, and onto a nice shelf on the other side of the room.

With this technology, it doesn't really matter if it's not shipping. Get with it already!
