Remember that old Groucho Marx quote: "I'd never belong to a club that would have me as a member?" Well, perhaps the same can be said for cell phone providers. No? Sorry, just trying to cushion the blow on this one. You see, for 200,000 Amp'd Mobile customers, Tuesday morning is really going to suck. Well, probably...
Come tonight at 12:01 AM, "Amp'd is potentially suspending US operation." "Potentially" is certainly a key word here, but in the meantime, users might want to start using up those credits. When tomorrow morning roles around, should you have any unpaid credit, you'll be requited to file a claim with a chapter 11 agency, if you ever want to see it again. Of course, if you owe Amp'd some money, they're recommending that you pay them, less they do their own credit agency reporting.
This likely marks the unceremonious end of the company, after a few weeks worth of death rattle, at the hands of bankruptcy courts, after launching two years ago, with $360 million worth of capitol. Engadget Mobile reported that, as of today, the company has whittled their supply down to a mere $9,000, which, it turns out, is not quite enough to run a mobile phone service on. Go figure.
