A few weeks ago, I wrote about seeing the LC Premiums 6 Plate Creativity Coloring Kit Plastic Toaster at a gift guide show. The company saw our post and offered to let us try one out. Yeah, it's not high tech. But I for one could not say no to the prospect of tattooed toast.

After the toaster arrived, I purchased a large loaf of white bread (not as healthy, but colors show up better). We just happened to have a Gearlog meeting scheduled for the following day, so I made toast one of my agenda items. As we talked about the pressing needs of a healthy, growing gadget blog we also toasted away, swapping out plates to make different toastal patterns. As the toast popped up, I passed it around to Gearloggers and let them get creative. (See pictures after the jump.)

Altogether, the toaster was fine. It worked... like a toaster. You can fine-tune the heat settings, and there are different buttons for toasting frozen stuff, for reheating, and for canceling your toast. And we've seen other toasters that brand your toast. But only this toaster gives you interchangeable plates. It comes with six plates, and you can buy more. It also comes with fruit-scented coloring pens, FDA-approved. They don't add much in the way of flavor--but that's not really the point at all. I can tell you that a roomful of (alleged) grownups had a blast coloring their toast. Imagine how your kids will react?

This one goes on my nieces' holiday gift list. Get your own for $39.99.
