Saturday afternoon hundreds of hipsters and competitors converged on a bar in Brooklyn for Wiimbledon 2007. The first annual Wii tennis tourney was a "smashing" success as 128 actual players entered the tournament and were cheered on by a rowdy bunch of costumed spectators. In fact the promise of a free Wii console to the best-dressed inspired the crowd to don their tennis finest or just a cool costume. Where else would you see a first round match-up between Harry Potter and a dude dressed as Zack from Saved by the Bell? The prize was eventually awarded to a man in a full on bear suit. As the day went on the play quickly changed from the jovial nature of the early rounds to some serious Wii strategy in the quarter and semi-finals. In the end Russ Yagoda, who was dressed as Luigi from Mario Brothers, won Wiimbledon in an exciting final. A special shout out goes to Tim Gideon of PC Magazine Labs who managed to battle his way into the quarter finals before losing to eventual runner-up Albert Thrower.
