Remember rabbit ears? If you're under the age of twenty, there's a decent chance that the answer is "no." According to one source, as of 2005, 85% of American households with television receive their signal via cable, making those two-prong analog TV receivers primarily a quaint relic of a bygone era.
On February 17, 2009, those receivers of ancient Americana will be taken completely out of commission, when local TV stations end analog broadcasts, opting to go entirely digital. Those who remain cable-free, after that date, will have to pick up a device that can convert digital signals into analog, which cost between $50 and $70 each, though vouchers issued by The National Telecommunications and Information Administration will help to subsidize the cost.
Consumers will be able to apply up to two of these $40 coupons to the price of the converters, for a belated anology Valentine's Day.

That's the most adorable bunny in the history of bunnies. I mean, he's the cutest bun in buntown.
I've got it bad for rabbits. My indignant outrage has been softened and tempered by his adorable fluffy gaze. :(

Umm, you will still need the rabbit ears for the converter to pick up those digital signals. I use them with my HDTV to get both SD and HD local channels. Actually, i read somewhere that antenna sales have gone up since HDTVs have come out.

You make it sound like this is the end of over-the-air broadcasts. It isn't. In fact, DTV over-the-air is so sweet! We now have a TV guide, and like, triple the channels. Not to mention 1080i(only, lol) definition. New TVs do NOT need cable if you don't want. They will work just fine without it. But an antenna is still a must. So, no by-by to bunny ears.

I am left dumb by the cuteness of that bunny. Give her a snuggle for us all, Brian.

What the hell. This is some bull... we got the box and the box doesn't pick up anything with our bunny ears! So now we have to spend more money just to buy an outside antenna and hope that will give us a signal. Thats bad we live in town.
