I love me some Benheck, I really do. If I had a nickel for every one of his old console mods that I've drooled over in the past couple of years, I'd actually be able to buy one of the damned things. When Heckendorn announced his "mystery product," back in April, I, like thousands of other tech blog frequenters, became unnaturally excited.
Yesterday, the man who brought you three-hundred different methods for playing an Atari 2600, sitting in a subway car, finally pulled back the curtain, to reveal...headphones. Gaming headphones. Really neat gaming headphones, but still...meh...
Perhaps I just let my imagination get too carried away at the prospect of a mystery product. Surely it would come as something of a disappointment if it was anything less exciting than some kind of portable unicorn. Maybe as a rule I should be more excited at the prospect of my head vibrating with every subsequent frag, but man, the first Benheck-branded project just ain't doing much for me.
Anyway, the folks commenting on Heckendorn's blog seem awfully excited about the thing, so maybe I'm alone on this one. For those who just had their minds totally blown, these things feature virtual 5.1 surround sound, force feedback tech, and a box designed by BenHeck himself, all for under $100.
