I'm something of a purist, so my music studio at home has walls lined with both CDs and vinyl, and my DJ setup has a mixer and two turntables (microphone not included) attached to my computer. It's a pretty nice setup, but if I have a gig somewhere, it's not exactly portable. For those DJs who spin CDs however, the Ion Portable DJ Station could be a portable and functional option for their next houseparty or small performance.
It's not professional quality at all, so don't expect to take this on stage in front of a dancefloor full of people, but it might be perfect for a small group of friends in an apartment or rec room, or as a cheap CD deck to attach to a larger setup. The DJ Station is small enough to carry with one hand (using the included carrying handle) and features two CD players, a built-in mixer with EQs, crossfader, pitch control, and 16 digital effects. The DJ Station also comes with a microphone and cable for the MC on stage with you, and has RCA and headphone inputs so you can monitor the sound in your ears while pumping the beats to a set of larger speakers. And there are built-in speakers, if you don't need a lot of sound.
To be honest, any serious DJ, spinning CDs or otherwise, wouldn't give this device a second glance. But folks who want a cool party gimmick might take a good look at it. And the ability to smoothly mix between CDs or spice up the music using the mixer's built-in features is definitely neat. It's available now for just over $100.
