Just in case you don't have enough options for accessing movies, HP's upcoming MediaSmart TVs will offer access to CinemaNow's movie database.
The 42- or 47-inch TVs are set to debut later this summer, but HP announced Monday that users will be able to access CinemaNow on their sets via their home computer networks. A click of the remote will lead you to a secure HP portal where you can rent a movie or buy it and download to your hard drive. Rentals typically run $3.99 per movie and purchases are around $15. TV shows and music videos are expected to be added at a later date.
I live in Manhattan, so a 42- or 47-inch television would basically take up my entire living room, but I wouldn't turn it down if HP wanted to let me have a trial run. The informational online video is pretty trippy, but it still basically sounds like pay-per-view - something I rarely use given my $130 monthly Time Warner Cable bill. But a cursory glance at CinemaNow shows the usual-suspect new releases, so if you don't want to wait for your next Netflix DVD or trek to Blockbuster (and have money to spare on a massive television - price not yet determined) this could be a good addition to your arsenal of entertainment options.
