Dyson AirbladeYesterday morning, I went to the movies. Unfortunately, I didn't actually get to see any movie at the AMC Theater 25 on 42nd street; instead, I did something way cooler. I met James Dyson and witnessed what he claims is the fastest, most hygienic hand dryer in the world.

Dubbed the Airblade, this hand dryer dries your hands in just 12 seconds. That's pretty fast, considering traditional electric hand dryers in public bathrooms dry hands at an average rate of 22 seconds. Even then, hands are still left damp, causing users to spread bacteria. Yuck.

You see, other hand dryers suck in hot, dirty restroom air and blow it onto your hands. But Dyson's Airblade doesn't use heat; rather, it pushes a 400-mph stream of clean air through a HEPA filter to remove bacteria before it reaches your hands. More precisely, the company claims that it removes 99.9 percent of bacteria. Why is this important? Well, according to the NSF International (formerly the National Sanitation Foundation), two different types of potentially dangerous bacteria (coliform and Staphylococcus aureus) were discovered on 10 percent of paper-towel dispensers and other surfaces in public restrooms.

To learn how the Dyson Airblade works, read my full report, check out some photos, and watch the video of the device in action! Look for the Airblade in AMC theater bathrooms across the U.S.

This is just a variant of something that's already been out in Japan.

The ones in Japan have like a special UV light to kill bacteria.
