It's hard not to love a country capable of making an international star of Yahoo Serious, and now the nation that gave the world the dingo, vegemite, and three Crocodile Dundee films, is at it again, this time introducing the United States to the concept of alcoholic beverages as an acceptable form of currency.
Messenger bag company, Crumpler, has been running its Beer for Bag promotion in its native Australia for five years now. Last year marked the first time that the company introduced the concept to our shores, via their two New York storefronts, and now, like last night's seventh round of Jager shots, it's come back, with a vengeance--and this time out, our neighbors in the great white north, who've never had a problem holding their own, are getting a shot at the festivities, at the company's Toronto store.
The promotion is fairly simple: deliver booze to one of the specified Crumpler store fronts between June 9th and June 17th (2nd-10th in Canada--has something to do with the metric system, I think) and walk out with a brand new bag. A list of the specific beverages that qualify as legal Crumpler currency is available on the company's site and in issues of the Village Voice.
Last year, the New York stores took in more than 1,000 cases of orphaned alcohol. Don't worry, though, they gave it a good home, throwing an in-store party for all of the participants--it's a win-win proposition, really--you know, until the morning after.
