Dit-dit-dit, dit-dit-dit, BZZZ! Anyone with a 2G T-Mobile or AT&T phone knows about the "GSM buzz" that creates interference in pretty much any speaker you put your phone near. It's annoying, especially for music lovers, and the only cure is to move to 3G on AT&T or to switch to Sprint or Verizon.
The iPhone is a 2G phone. But it works with iPod accessories. Like speakers. So guess what? According to Apple's official Q&A page, "iPhone may cause audio interference with some iPod accessories." Yup, that means if you want to use your iPhone as an iPod, watch out for the dit-dit-dit-BZZZ!
Obviously we'll be testing that situation extensively over the next few days. (The photo above is from FeelingCingular.com, a hilarious cry of rage from a guy who was tired of the buzz.)

I have been experiencing the GSM buzz for about a year now since I purchased a top end LG phone from cingular. The buzz comes out of my computer speakers and is very annoying. In my bedroom I have a PC attached to my TV so I can use my Slingbox Pro. I charge my cell phone nearby, and recently it has been waking me up at night. I have worked around it by powering off my multimedia speakers when not watching TV, but this annoyance has been irritating me for a year, and I am glad to now know what it is. I am glad to understand, but I am surprised if GSM has this problem, that I haven't heard about it before now, and that the technology is still in use.
