xmstatic.jpgLooks like Opie and Anthony aren't the only ones who have been silenced. After a full day XM radio problems, representatives at the company have finally acknowledged that there's something fishy going on with the satellite radio provider's signal. Subscribers have been reporting loss of reception and signal quality since 12PM EDT, yesterday.

In response to the XM radio outages, the company issued the following statement on their site, "We quickly identified the problem and are working hard to return to our normal levels of service. The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of our satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a loss of signal from one of our satellites. We expect normal service to resume midday today (eastern daylight time)." The notice goes on to recommend that people tune into the online XM feeds, through their PC.

We'll post further updates, as they arrive.

I live in central Florida and noticed a significant weakness in my XM signal while driving my car both yesterday and today (as late as an hour ago -- around 4:30 p.m. EDT). The problems were minimal, however, consisting of brief dropouts of signal under bridges where normally the signal remains strong and a strangely intermittent signal on a part of Merritt Island (near the Walmart on SR520) where I have had inexplicable reception problems in the past. The area is completely open to the sky above and I have no idea why the signal drops out there so consistently. Today and yesterday, however, that "dead spot" was MUCH larger than usual. Normally it is confined to the Walmart parking lot and the area on the road immediately outside the exit, and service is fully restored within half a block, but yesterday and today it extended for several blocks east and west of the Walmart. I have had no problems, however, using my stationary home antenna at my home in Orlando.

I have Xm Radio and noticed too the outage. I called customer service and they just "reset" my receiver signal, they told me nothing was wrong! To wait 15 minutes then reset the unit AGAIN thru the website. I'm thinking to ask XM to give me a credit on the lost hours to see what they comming up with them.

One day, my butt. I was having signal problems in my car on Saturday night already. Didn't clear up until Tuesday afternoon. And these guys want to 'enhance' competition with a Sirius marriage? PULEEZ!

service got worse the further north i went...

in st. louis it was ok, but in minneapolis, trees were killing it...

i was just getting ready to buy a new antenna when i heard the 'official' announcment.

seemed ok by about 1 pm tuesday.

This service has more than a "one day" outage problem. There are frequent cut-outs which really ruins the enjoyment of the music. Also, the 12.95 fee per month is way over priced. No one should pay any more than 4 or 5 dollars monthly for this service.

Walmart has their own satellite system. Maybe that's why you're having problems in their parking lot?

There was a problem? XM has always come in loud and clear for me, and the past weekend was no exception. Except when the mountains got between me and the satellite, but that's certainly nothing new.

I am in Calgary, Alberta, spent the weekend in Banff.

This past Friday I had a satellite installed in my truck at my home in the country where I live. I drive to work in the big city, never realized until I got near the city limits that my XM radio quit and the FM radio channel it was set at came on (which is a local channel to the city) but I cannot receive this channel where I live. I am wondering if that is the reason why I receive XM at home and not in the big city? Do I have to change FM channels to receive the XM radio stations or am I out of luck and need a new antenna, tune in another station or have the radio "tuned"???

Trouble in Rocky from Rocky...
