$2,000 might sound expensive for a typical mainstream laptop, but what if you add in a Blu-Ray drive? Would that make you go hmmm? Today, Sony launches the VAIO VGN-FZ100, targeting avid video editors and those with tons of Blu-Ray titles, with a Blu-Ray laptop for $1,999. This is significantly cheaper in comparison to some of the other Blu-Ray laptop offerings, including both the Dell XPS M1710(Blu-Ray) and the Acer Travelmate 8210-6038. The FZ100 is the second lightest 15.4-inch laptop next to the Apple Macbook Pro, weighing a scant 5.8 pounds. It has an HDMI-Out port, S-Video, and an option for discrete graphics from nVidia. You'll have to settle for the WXGA(1280-by-800) screen resolution, but it's not bad considering it's an XBRITE screen. There'll be color variations, as well, and you can configure-to-order the FZ100 with either the white or black chassis. And did I mention that it has Intel's latest Santa Rosa Platform?

Does a VGN FZ100 model really exist? The Sonystyle site lists an FZ180 model at $1,999. A NYC store asks $2,200 for pre-orders.
How well does it perform compared to last year's initial $3.5k laptop with Blu-ray?
