Wading through my email, I came across an announcement from Samsung that slipped by most everybody earlier this month, including myself. (Granted, I was moving back to the U.S. at the time.)
Basically, Samsung will begin selling a 24-inch LCD monitor with an LED backlight that the company claims will produce better visibility than ambient light, as evidenced by the attached picture. Samsung has been shipping this technology inside of its LCD screens for some time now.
Expected prices were not announced.
Here's the technical-ese: The LED-backlit monitor panel has an industry-high color saturation level of 111 percent (of NTSC standard) compared to a saturation level of only 72 percent of NTSC for conventional monitors and will satisfy consumers used to the crisp colors prevalent in high-definition broadcasting. The new monitor display also features Samsung's
S-PVA (Super Patterned-ITO Vertical Alignment) for 180-degree viewing, as well as 1900x1200 resolution.
For some reason, the width of the display is being touted as being particularly Vista friendly; apparentrly, someone has decided that a display roughly the size of two pieces of standard A4 paper is ideal for Vista use. For those of you at work, feel free to cut, paste, and forward this along to your IT department. It's all about productivity, people!
