Samsung has been making waves in portable storage lately. First it rolled out new 8GB SD Cards, and now the company is aiming to make SD cards in cell phones obsolete entirely. Samsung moviMCP solid-state storage for cell phones is tiny, and contains a dedicated 128MB or 256MB chip for the phone's operating system and bundled applications, and an additional 4GB for multimedia like music and video.
The idea is to eliminate the need for media card slots on Samsung phones, so designers and engineers can have some flexibility in designing future Samsung phones. Without being limited by having to include an SD card slot, Samsung hopes it can design thinner phones and compete with other phone manufacturers that assemble branded phones for other companies.
