256GB is a lot of storage, even by traditional hard drive standards. The fact that PQI has managed to produce a solid-state drive with such large capacity is impressive. PQI's new 256GB solid-state drive is slow, however, slower than SATA, and if you're concerned with running out and getting one now, you're sort of missing the point. High volume, solid-state disk technology is an area of major investment by a number of companies, and when the drives become small, fast, and high volume, we could see them start appearing in consumer devices very quickly.
In the meantime, PQI's new drive is still incredibly expensive and not yet available through the company's store. Their announcement is likely meant more to impress people with the state of their research and development at this point, than to garner any actual sales.
