After waiting and waiting...and then waiting some more, it would seem that Art. Lebedev Studio will finally be taking preorders on its elusive Optimus Maximus keyboard this Saturday.
The Lebedev Web site has kindly provided a countdown tool to remind [suckers/potential buyers] when they'll be able [squander/lay down] their hard earned cash on this [pretentious/ambitious] keyboard.
With an official price tag of $1,564.37, it remains to be seen whether these customizable OLED (organic light-emitting diode) keyboards will sell like electroluminescent hotcakes or instead garner collective yawns from those who have literally been reading about the vaporware for years now. Regardless, the studio says there will only be an initial run of 800 during the first three months--that's 200 shipping November 31, 200 more rolling out in December, and then 400 in January of 2008.
So if you're the type of person who prefers a fancy keyboard to a really nice plasma or LCD television, remember it's first-come, first-serve for the Optimus. Additional details on the keyboard's production development can found on Artemy Lebedev's blog.

$1600 for a keyboard!!??!What, did you guys wait till now to run your April fools joke? OH!!! I GET IT!!! That IS the joke.Waiting till now to spring it.COOL!!Otherwise, there are some extremely idiotic company presidents that expect people to actually spend that much money on a one trick pony.I wonder where they are going to store the 799 of them that they don't sell? Maybe I'll see them for $50 on e-bay.I MIGHT buy one then but I doubt it!!

I was able to purchase one of these keyboards. I have been able to program mine to play videos under the keys. It's quite the excentric little toy, but when you want something, you just go out and get it!
