nokia8600.jpg Nokia today announced their 8600 Luna model, the successor to their 8801 luxury phone.

This device isn't about features, it's about using expensive materials to give a classy feel: it's a slider with black stainless steel covers, translucent smoked glass over the keypad, and a glass screen. The features are pretty midrange, considering the $945 list price: a 2-megapixel camera, a 320x240 screen, quad-band EDGE (not 3G) and, as far as I can tell, no memory card slot. That doesn't matter, really - this is phone as jewelry, not phone as high-tech Swiss army knife. The Luna will be available next month directly from Nokia, probably through NokiaUSA.com and the company's flagship stores. You'll be able to use it with Cingular and T-Mobile service.
