Attention, prospective iPhone buyers! Your objet du désir is one step closer to being in your expectant hands--that is, if you can muscle your way through the inevitable crowds of Apple fanboys come June. AppleInsider is reporting that the Federal Communications Commission just gave the official thumbs up to the mobile handset today, clearing the way for its imminent release next month.
According to FCC documents obtained by AppleInsider:
"The Apple Inc. A1203 GSM Cellular Telephone with Bluetooth and Wifi, FCC ID: BCGA1203, is in compliance with the limits for general population uncontrolled exposure specified in FCC 2.1093. The device was tested according to the measurement standards and procedures specified in FCC OET Bulletin 65, Supplement C (Edition 01-01) and IEEE p1528/D1.2, April 21, 2003."
Riveting stuff, right? So now that Lothar Schmidt (on behalf of the government) has determined that the iPhone won't cause your head to explode or the world to shift off axis, what else is there really to know? Hmmm, perhaps a release date?
Per Apple's request, the FCC iPhone test report omitted the following for "short term" confidentiality reasons: Test Setup Photos, External Photographs, Internal Photographs, and the iPhone User Manual.
Lucky for us, we already have a leaked copy of the latter.
