Starting today, every laptop will jump on the Santa Rosa bandwagon, as Intel moves to its new platform for laptops. Santa Rosa is basically a codename that Intel uses prior to an official launch. The branding names, or better yet, stickers that you'll see on laptops this summer will be labeled as either Centrino Duo or Centrino Pro.
What can you expect from this new platform? Look for gains in the 3-10% range over the previous "Napa" chipset. Intel is adding new processors to the Core 2 Duo line, where the fastest one, the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700, reaches a clock rate of 2.4Ghz. The new integrated graphics core now has support for DX10, and Intel has provided native support for Draft 802.11n wireless. In a nutshell, both the Centrino Duo and Pro platform will populate every single laptop from now until next year, or at least until Intel makes its next Centrino launch. PCMag's homepage has a formal introduction, as well as a slew of laptop reviews featuring this new technology.
