At Dell's launch of its "Hybrid Business" strategy today, the company spent a few minutes talking about its history of developing new standards, and forcing them on the industry. One of the standards discussed: Display Port. This new interconnect, according to Dell CTO Kevin Kettler, will redefine what an LCD monitor looks like.
It will support up to 4x the current HDTV resolutions, allow for integrated peripherals around the display, and will let you daisychain multiple monitors, rather than installing them in a star configuration. Everyting, including audio, microphone, panel I/O and more will all go through a single bi-directional cable.
Even better, by eliminating a lot of the electronics used for video conversion, new LCD monitors will be super-thin, and super sleek. The prototype, displayed above, should be available later this year. It's only about a half an inch thick. Display Port also promises to make notebook monitors thinner too, said Kettler.

I can't believe Dell creates such a sexy thing!

design and innovation is the name of the game... I hate dell as a brand, but now I actually dont mind it if they keep this up!

Very nice Dell, lets see 4X HD would be 7680 X 4320... I wonder what something like this will cost... $2499?

More likely, 4x the pixels == 4 times the resolution, which would only be 3840x2160.

I think it's 7680 x 4320

Someone's math is off. If you multiply both dimensions by 4, that's 16x the resolution. Sorry, it only doubles each dimension.
I'd like to buy land from you. If I buy a lot from you that's 1000ft x 1000ft, that should only cost 4x a lot of 250ft x 250ft, right?!

Let's get real about this 'Dell design' - Dell's competence is in managing their supply chain - I would bet money that some supplier (prob in Taiwan) had this design already and Dell skinned it with their logo.
Not knocking their ability to do this - they have great pricing as a result, but I just doubt they spend any significant $ in-house with aesthetic product design.

i really hope that's made of polycarbonate and not glass.

I think that the "It will support up to 4x the current HDTV resolutions" refers to Display Port, not the monitor in question, because that monitor is displaying 1980x1080.

I really like that but i can't help notice it's a bit reflective.....

i like it without the glass. dell is really into making monitors!

Those speakers look interesing. Are they traditional speakers, or those new "NXT" tranducer types which make the whole of the front panel a speaker?

Ooh. Shiny. I need a new mirror.

Cool, but crappy, I would not waste my money on this thing. Look at the glare. I hate monitors that have a glossy display which make the colors more vivid, at the expense of higher glare are false colors. Stupid!
