Dutch company BioKing Green Energy NV has announced the development of new high-performance and continuous photo-bioreactors for algae to produce biodiesel. This technology has the potential to dramatically improve biodiesel yields from algae oil. Because of its research, the company believes algae is a better energy source for the production of biodiesel than oilseed crops.

According to Hans and Marco van de Ven, founders of BioKing, oilseed crops rob valuable space needed for food crops and aren't even the most productive or efficient source for vegetable oil. Say the de Vens: "Micro-algae have the highest potential of energy yield in vegetable oil crops. Some species of algae are ideally suited for biodiesel production due to their high oil content, some as much as 50 percent, and their extremely fast growth rates. They can grow in adverse conditions like deserts and saline water. That is why algae are the crop of the future." BioKing aims to build a world-wide sustainable network that will deliver value from earth to engine.
