I'm kind of a sucker for baseball-related news (pathetic plug: I played with former All-Star Randy Winn in a college-age summer league) so when the Houston Astros pinged me with news that they now are the first park in any U.S. sport with dedicated "Bluetooth Zones," I felt obligated to pass it along.
Visitors to Minute Maid Park (hey, it's like Wrigley Field, but with orange juice) can can download still photos, animations, video and audio clips, ticket offers, interactive applications, and links all for free.
Here's hoping that they'll provide a few extra goodies for the wireless fan, such as a copy of the daily press briefing, extra stats, and maybe downloadable replays. Get the right stat wonk on the other end of that Bluetooth connection and they could do a lot with this.
I wonder if the downloadable pictures includes one of Roger Clemens thumbing his note at the city to play for the Yanks. Ah, it was always Bagwell's team anyway.
By the way, the sign advertises "an exclusive offer from the Houston Astros".
